A ring with a coil of wire is passed through the central
hole in a toroid. The toroid spins one way while the coil
moves in the opposite direction. Holding onto one end of the
wire pulls the wire off the ring as it moves round the toroid.
Each complete rotation of toroid and ring adds one turn of
wire to the toroid.
